Kika Lodge Gilgil.

10th Mar 2021

A couple of weeks back, after getting out of isolation. I just needed a road trip to free myself from the claustrophobia I was going through. Mr Man suggested a trip out of town and I asked my friend Muthuri Kinyamu
to suggest somewhere exclusive, modest and discrete. He mentioned Kika Lodge. I trusted his judgement and off Mr Man and I went.
The place is located slightly inside Gilgil overlooking a beautiful valley. Direction by Google maps though takes you slightly before the lodge but the locals are quite happy to point you to the right direction up the hill. The road is murram for around 5km. An off road vehicle would find it easy especially the drive up the hill.
We were the only guests at the time so we had the whole place to ourselves. It is a Lodge with I think less than 10 cabins. The service is very prompt. The chef was amazing. Try their goat ribs. Succulent! We asked for the honeymoon suite so not sure how the others are. It has two adjacent rooms with a shared living area. The open patio has a sunken bathtub overlooking the gorge. Of course we used it! There is an outdoor shower too. The room has a lovely open design of bedroom combined with a bathtub at the back of the bed and next to it an open shower and toilet. I fell in love with the design and hopefully will build my rural cabin house in same style. No TV. Limited connectivity. Just the perfect place to switch off.
They have a common dining area and a great lounge that is upstairs where one can have a sundowner as they marvel at the scenery. The decor is very African with the use of lot of wood. I understand you can arrange to have walks and hikes. Lake Elementaita is within driving distance. Gilgil has a prehistoric site too (Kariandusi) as well as other attractions like hiking on Sleeping Warrior Hill. We preferred to get into the car and take a 2 hour drive from Gilgil through Dundori, into Nakuru and back to Gilgil.
We intended to only stay one night but we ended up extending by another night.
Amakove rating 8/10. (Some of the photos are from their website because my phone couldn't do justice to the beauty of the place!)

Their website is here https://www.kikalodge.co.ke. We booked through Muthuri Kinyamu and got a good percentage off.
