Lovely Langley
Langley Fox..Illustrator…Designer…Photographer…Fashionista…Parson’s Student
Miss Fox is a very talented and ultra-creative young lady who is constantly inspired by her surroundings and love for art. A fantastic and dedicated artist, Langley will share her inspiration, passion, and work below.
Where do you get your inspiration and why?
Tim Burton is who I draw my inspiration from. The art behind his work and the dark, creepiness mixed with childlike playfulness is what I love about him. I also admire how he uses different elements and textures. My favorite Tim Burton movies are the Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands. Costume-wise my favorite is Sweeney Todd, because of all the dark colors and old-fashioned suits. Oh, and I can’t wait for Alice and Wonderland!
Who is your favorite Illustrator or Photographer?
Laura Laine is an amazing illustrator. She draws a series of delicate girls with crazy hair, and illustrates for a lot of different magazines. She uses graphite and pencil in all her sketches, and is so intricate and detailed, which I love.
I also love Cedric Rivrain. He is a fashion illustrator, and focuses on realism. All his work is done on gray or manilla paper rendered with white so his images look 3D, and really stick out. He did a great illustration of Kate Moss, where she looked almost life like, popping out of the page.
Which designers do you love at the moment?
For Spring 2010, I love John Galliano because he has so much detail in each garment. His themes are so playful and amazing, with layered textures and random pieces that make each look perfect. I also love D&G with their black and white genre with splashes of florals.
If you had the opportunity to create your own collection what would it look like?
It would definitely be Tim Burton-esque. There would be a lot of textures, with a menswear vibe. I love old fashion suits, and girly dresses with raggedy knee socks, to tone down the feminism. The collection would come from a classic standpoint, like the suits in Sweeney Todd, with a lot of dark colors!
What are your favorite pieces in your closet right now?
Currently, I’m in love with my black vintage lace-up boots that I got from a tiny little shop in NYC. They make me feel like a Tim Burton character. I am loving my Anthropologie cape, which is a sage color and ties at the waist. Last, I am constantly wearing knee socks and ripped tights, with short dresses.
What are your favorite magazines or websites?
Lula Magazine is definitely one of my favorites. Online, I constantly visit the Art Department website for inspiration from photography, illustration, and styling. From the Art Department you can search various other websites, and I kind of just explore from there.
How do you like being a student at Parson’s Design School?
I love that I’m being forced to draw every day. Although it is VERY time consuming, my drawings and designs are massively improving which is wonderful and makes me so happy to be so committed.
If you could describe FASHION in your own words….
Fashion to me is not for publicity, it’s more of an art form. I love and aspire to create things that are beautiful, not only to make you feel good but to show it off like a piece of art. Fashion is not only a public trend or a brand, but an art form. I want to be known as an artist, not just a name and designer.
